In a wind turbine, several areas can be automated to lift the efficiency of the wind turbine, to improve ergonomics or to reduce the weight of the wind turbine by replacing solutions that are more complex and already in place.

Ventilation in wind turbines

Ventilation is implemented in wind turbines to maintain the preferred temperature. This is done to avoid cold temperatures in the winter and hot temperatures in the summer. The actuator controls the angle of the ventilation louvres.

Access Gates

The actuator opens the gates to give access to all areas of the wind turbine.

Service Hatches

The actuator opens the hatches when needed in service situations.

Maintenance Crane

The actuator can be used in cranes for servicing the wind turbine.

Rotor Brake

The actuator can be used when you need to stop the rotor e.g. in service situations, hazardous weather conditions or no wind situations.

Rotor Lock

The actuator locks the rotor after braking. This prevents the rotor from rotating when service is being done.

Wing Lock

When the wing has rotated, the actuator locks the wing in place.

Emergency Lubricating System

If the main lubricating system falls out, the actuator opens the emergency lubricating system.

A wind turbine is mostly located in rural areas or at sea and needs to be controlled from a central control point.

Wind turbines are a sustainable way to convert the energy in the wind to electricity.

Life Cycle Assesment - LCA

LCA is a tool for an aggregated description of emissions, waste and the use of resources. Seen from an LCA perspective a modern wind turbine discharge approx. 5 grams of CO2 per kWh.

A power plant using coals discharges approx. 800 grams of CO2 per kWh. Further, in less than 12 months a modern wind turbine has produced more energy than it took to build it – it is in balance.
